The NANOBLOCK Procedure is a minimally invasive, image-guided bariatric embolization procedure that was developed by interventional radiologists. Our physician’s completed the very first procedure in the USA! They have also completed the first procedure through the radial artery. The procedure is done by introducing a small catheter into the wrist or groin, using X-ray imaging to guide the catheter to the stomach where small bead particles are injected. These small beads suppress the production of the hunger hormone.
Only a small puncture in the wrist or groin area is needed, no stomach staples, no bypass, no bands, no invasive surgery!
Physicians routinely use these same small particles for other applications for over 20 years.
The NANOBLOCK Procedure patients return home the same day and the procedure is conducted at an outpatient facility.

Report on Bariatric Embolization with a Patient Interview
After spending close to six months preparing to have a gastric sleeve--major bariatric surgery,
in my hometown of Pittsburgh, I was thrilled to discover that the staff at Dayton Interventional
Radiology were offering to the public the Nanoblock, a much less invasive procedure for weight loss.
I heard about the groundbreaking research being conducted at this location in the spring, and weekly
scanned the internet to find out when it would be available to non-research patients.
From the first time I contacted DIR, the staff has been wonderful! Both prior to and after the procedure, my questions and concerns s have been addressed promptly, in a clear and supportive way. Dr Morar has been matchless in his responsiveness.
Well, it has been one week now since Dr. Morar performed the Nanoblock procedure. I am feeling so well, that I can barely believe that I had the procedure done! My procedure lasted only about 30 minutes, and I only experienced nausea for a minute or two the day of my embolization . I'm happy to report that in one week I am already down 4 lbs, loving my decreased appetite, and filling up quickly after I eat. I've had next to no pain or discomfort during the procedure or since. I can't begin to express how thankful I am that the path opened up for me to have this minimally invasive procedure and am looking forward to using this tool as I pursue a more healthy weight. ~Michelle S. from Pittsburgh
